Resident Dharma Teacher
Zenki Christian Dillo Roshi
Zenki Christian Dillo Roshi began his Zen practice in 1996 at the San Francisco Zen Center. For 20 years, he practiced monastically at the Crestone Mountain Zen Center. In 2013, he received dharma transmission from Zentatsu Baker Roshi.
Since then, he has been Boulder Zen Center’s Guiding Teacher. In 2020, he moved to Boulder with his wife and son, and now teaches full-time.
Zenki Roshi teaches Zen as a craft based on his understanding of Buddhism as a “transformative phenomenology”—an embodied investigation of human experience with the intention of realizing liberation, wisdom, and compassion.
He is currently developing a series of Practice Courses to actively support lay practitioners in their daily lives. This curriculum is aligned with his book The Path of Aliveness: A Contemporary Zen Approach to Awakening Body and Mind (Shambala, May 2022).
Council
The Council is a small group of committed practitioners who meet weekly and are dedicated to supporting the Sangha. They offer their experience, time, and energy to lead the daily Zendo practice, offer orientation for newcomers, organize intensives, and train others in the forms of practice. Generally, they are responsible for connecting with the needs of the Sangha and are available to answer questions and provide guidance.
Zen practice at the Boulder Zen Center is designed to support people who are engaged in their everyday lives of work and family responsibilities as well as social and cultural activities. BZC doesn't want to recreate the formal hierarchical structures of traditional Zen temples. However, for practice to be transformative, a crucial ingredient is required: commitment.
The Council model strives to provide a context in which dedicated practitioners can cultivate their commitment and express their bodhisattva vows through caring for the community, using peer support to grow together, and closely collaborating with the teacher in dharmic and practical ways.
Currently, we have one Council. However, the model is open and expandable. We will continue to develop additional Councils as people are ready for and aspire to this deeper training and commitment. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions for the Council Members or about Council practice in general.

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors holds and develops BZC’s vision. Together we aspire to build a practice community that supports people in realizing and embodying liberation from suffering as well as wisdom and compassion in their daily lives—and to participate in building a society based on these values.
The Board meets monthly to provide financial oversight and administrative guidance. Its annual retreats are dedicated to long-range planning and development.
